Original Setting Explanation
After obtaining information on the Federation's mobile suits, the Zeon forces recognized the effectiveness of support mobile suits such as the Guncannon and Guntank, and hastily prepared a Zaku II with fire support specifications as a countermeasure.

Equipped with a cannon and anti-ship rifle, this standard J-type Zaku II was primarily tasked with rear support, and was also used for sniping missions when necessary (hence the knee support on the right knee).
