If it was a part that had popped off, I would tenaciously search for it, thinking "it must be in this direction." 
But the part that had disappeared without a trace was never found. The part order was out of stock, so I made a new one. And the most difficult part to find was... the loss of the entire backpack... Is it possible for something that big to just disappear??? If you dropped it somewhere, is it possible for it to never be found??? Yes, I did a thorough cleaning. Not just around the work area. There's no way it would have left this room. A thorough cleaning. The search continued for several days, and finally it got caught on some cables and was in the air! There's no way I'll ever find it.
