The coating was cost-effective, and its effectiveness was low compared to its cost, so for the average pilot it was only slightly better than nothing.
So, it was cheaper and more effective to equip it with a shield rather than an expensive coating.
And so, while the performance of the aircraft remained unchanged, it was tested as a high-quality aircraft with reduced costs.
